Background

Burlington Northern SD70MAC #9647 was chosen to wear a very unique paint scheme. The locomotive was delivered in the first part of August 1995 from the General Motors Locomotive Group (GMLG), and was built in Ontario, Canada. It was the 76th unit of Order #946565.

The unit arrived on the property wearing the BN cream and green colors applied in an ATSF-Warbonnet style paint scheme. The unit was decorated in this fashion to celebrate the approval of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe merger by the Interstate Commerce Commission on the 20 July 1995.

Although unofficial, the unit was the Burlington Northern Santa Fe's first paint scheme. As of August 2003, the paint scheme continues to view, although unit will be receiving the Premium Heritage (or Heritage II) paint scheme in the future.
