The Northwest's Own Railway

The SP&S was chartered in Washington state on August 23, 1905, and soon was controlled by NP and GN, each with 50-percent ownership. The main line between Spokane and Portland became operational in May 1909 and served as a vital GN and NP link between its namesake cities.
